Tackle workplace anxiety with these simple hacks

In today’s day and age, the competition, the constant pressure to perform better and the pace at which everything is going on can get to you and make you feel overwhelmed. It can also lead to workplace anxiety. It can be triggered by a range of factors and may often take a toll on your mental and emotional well-being.

While anxiety cannot be cured at once, there are steps that we can take to tackle it better. Some of these are listed below.

Focus on yourself – Chart out a schedule and assign as much time to your personal well-being as you can, when you are not working. Make sure you are eating right, exercising, getting adequate sleep and are maintaining a social circle outside of work.

Plan and manage deadlines – Anxious people cannot deliver their best when they are working under pressure or have deadlines to meet. Start ahead of time to avoid any last minute panic situation. If you have the chance, do not agree to a deadline you cannot meet, not allowing you to work at a comfortable pace.

More indulgence at workplace – If your workplace makes you unhappy, you are likely to drift away from all the activities that are taking place in the office and maintain a distance from your colleagues. To deal with such a situation, find a group you think you might feel comfortable with, try and maintain a friendly relationship with everyone at work. It will also make your coworkers more empathetic and understanding towards you. Moreover, you will find it easier to reach out to them in times of need.

Take a break – Taking a break is important in every working professional’s day-to-day life. Every time you feel worked up, get up from your spot, stretch or take a walk, talk to a friend at work or outside of work, and then get back to business. These breaks will help you calm down, will refresh your mind and provide you with a newfound energy to perform better.

Keep your phone on silent – Anxiety can be triggered due to unexpected events, and a lot of it is caused by call and text alerts that come from your phone. Keeping your phone on silent gives you the freedom to check your messages and calls at your convenience.

Check e-mails during pre-set time – For the same reason mentioned above, check your e-mails at certain pre-fixed times in a day. This will not only help reduce anxiety but also allow you to give undivided attention to your work.

Practice Mindfulness – Living in the moment and not worrying about the future is a great mantra for people navigating anxiety. Yoga and meditation can help you to calm and relax your mind and enjoy the moment as it comes.
