Don’t want to go gym alone? Take your pals along! Here are 5 benefits of group workouts

We don’t have to tell you the benefits of working out. You already know that. And yet, some of us find it so difficult to get ourselves out of bed every morning. Why? Shouldn’t it be easy for us to do something which we know is definitely good for our health and our life?

No, not quite. We have to deal with our internal resistances all the time. One of the main reasons why a lot of people don’t show up at gym is that they find the idea of working out all by themselves a bit too boring. Sleeping or browsing social media feeds or watching Netflix seems more alluring in those moments of resistance.

So, what do you do? You can either go back to those activities, or make your workouts just as alluring. By taking your friends along!


Here are 5 reasons why you should include your pals in your workout sessions


1. Motivation

Knowing that your friends would be waiting for you at the gym is more than enough reason to get us out of our beds. Nobody wants to be that friend that cancels on or ditches the group plans, right? This sense of accountability towards your pals will ensure that you don’t miss your workouts, unless you have a very valid reason to do so.

2. A social outing

Going to the gym can be more of a social outing with friends, just like Saturday nights, as opposed to a tedious worry of having to just show up at the gym. You can chat and have fun, while burning calories.

3. Will power to achieve milestones

Just showing up at the gym is not enough. You have to make the time you spend there, worthwhile. Working out alone often does not motivate one to push harder. Some healthy competition among your friends will create the will power to not just push yourself harder but also encourage each other to do their best.

4. Stress Buster

When you are working out alone, your mind often wonders. You’re bound to think about all the things that worry you. If you work out amidst your friends, you tend to be less stressed about the negative things in your life and be more present and focused on your exercises.

5. Confidence booster

Some people don’t go to gym because they don’t know how to use the equipment there. They don’t want to embarrass themselves in front of others. How about having your friends show you how to use the equipment correctly? It will definitely give more confidence to first timers, and make them more comfortable with the idea of gyms/workouts.


These are some of the reasons, why having your buddies work out alongside you, can prove to be highly beneficial. However, this is not to suggest that group workouts are better than going solo. Some may prefer to work out alone, while some may like to have a mix of both. Whatever your preferences are, find a way that’s more likely to keep you motivated and focused, to work out consistently and regularly.
