What are the benefits of Meditation?

What is the most common problem that the world deals with today? Anxiety and Stress! Even if we have all that we ever wanted in this moment, we are constantly worried about what’ll happen in the future or about the things that occurred in the past. We tend to take the present for granted. We forget to see that we are alive in this moment, living and breathing.

And here’s the big one—it helps you reduce stress and tackle depression. Research says that 30 minutes of meditation improves depression symptoms such as stress, anxiety and pain.

How to get ready for meditation

Here’s what you must know before you start to meditate:

  1. Decide a fixed time; it could be anytime of the day when you can afford to relax without being bothered.
  2. Find a quiet place, which is ventilated. Most people prefer to meditate during the sunrise and sunset hours, as they’re quieter than other times of the day.
  3. Wear comfortable and loose clothes.
  4. Sit in a comfortable posture on a mat or a chair, or whatever suits you. Don’t forcefully sit in difficult yoga positions if you are not comfortable. That defeats the whole point. You have to be relaxed throughout.
  5. Ensure your stomach is relatively empty.
  6. Indulge in a few warm-up exercises before you meditate. This improves blood circulation and helps get rid of inertia and restlessness.
  7. Start breathing slowly and pay close attention to your breath. Some thoughts will come to you. Don’t focus on them and don’t suppress them. Just let them be. Watch them. They’ll disappear after a while.

For beginners, let’s get a few things straight.
