Everyone knows that summertime means sweating and thirst – which you can tackle with refreshing, cool drinks! But what if we told you that some summer drinks could also be useful for health? We’ve gathered a few such Indian summer drinks that can help you stay hydrated and healthy this season!

Buttermilk

A staple in many Indian households, Buttermilk or Chaas has cooling properties. It is also loaded with protein, calcium and vitamin B-2, which provide numerous health advantages.

Coconut water

Not only is tender coconut water low on fat, but it also contains fiber, vitamin C and antioxidants. It also has minerals that act as electrolytes, restoring fluid balance in the body after a hot summer workout.

Aam Panna

The king of fruits is not just great for eating; it’s perfect for drinking too! Aam Panna is made with raw mango pulp, which contains essential nutrients like pectin, vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C and iron.

Kokum Sherbet

Kokum sherbet is prepared by soaking kokum in water overnight. Along with cooling the body, it also boosts gut health, as it has antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Lemonade

This list can’t be complete without good old Nimbupaani. Chilled lemonade quenches thirst quickly, and gives you a quick dose of vitamin C too. Adding a few mint leaves can elevate the freshness quotient of this popular drink.

Barley Water

If you haven’t tried this drink yet, we strongly urge you to do. All you need is pearl barley, water, salt, honey and lemon. This drink is a rich source of fiber and helps lower cholesterol and blood sugar level. Plus, it has weight loss benefits as well.

Jaljeera

Jaljeera, a mixture of water (jal) and powdered cumin seeds (jeera), is great for digestion and has a cooling effect on the body. Spice up the drink (quite literally) by throwing in some herbs such as mint and coriander, and ginger, black salt and lemon juice.

Why opt for fizzy sodas that are overflowing with sugar, when you can opt for one of the above mentioned healthy Indian summer drinks? Go ahead, make the right beverage choice this season!
